ADOPT A RELEASED DOG

Because the standards for our service dogs and explosive-detection canines are so high, some dogs do not complete the program for either behavioral or health reasons. These dogs will be released as pets for a charge of $6,000, and $3,000 for volunteers.

They will come to you spayed or neutered, current on all their vaccines, and incredibly bonded to humans. The feedback we’ve received is that recipients never knew that dogs could be as focused on people as are ours.

When a dog has been approved for release, we review each adoption application to determine which family is best suited for that particular dog.

Once selected, we reach out to inform applicants that they are being considered for a released dog and we proceed to contact your references.

Once all references are checked and accepted, we will then discuss how and when you can pick up the dog.

Please note, when a dog is adopted, they may never be given away or sold. If, for any reason, you cannot keep the dog, the dog must be returned to Puppies Behind Bars.

Please understand that we do our utmost to ensure we pair applicants with a dog we feel will be the best match for you and your family.

Be patient with us — but be assured that if you do get a pet from Puppies Behind Bars, we are positive it will be a wonderful part of your life for many years to come.
