This live-in position entails working at our Early Socialization Center on our Millerton, NY property and caring for our service dog puppies, beautiful Labrador Retrievers, from their birth-up to 8 weeks of age.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

  • Provide monitoring and care for broods and their puppies for approximately 4-6 litters/year (32-48 weeks/Year)
  • Working with our team to feed, clean and ensure the safety and security of the young puppies and brood.
  • Monitor and document puppy growth and development
  • Assist volunteers and staff members with puppy socialization (training will be provided)
  • Manage inventory, including materials and supplies
  • No experience in puppy care or whelping is necessary.  PBB will train the right candidate on all aspects of this job.  This is a great opportunity to learn a new set of skills!
  • This is a salaried position; the right candidate can choose to work as a full-time or as a part-time employee of PBB (full-time include socializing our adult service dogs in training; part-time would be just taking care of the litters).

ABOUT THE HOUSE:

  • Our Millerton property includes a spacious 4 bedroom, 2 bath house, boasting a bright, open concept design.
  •  10 fully-fenced, landscaped acres surround the house and include a pond.  An additional 12 lightly wooded acres provides a wonderful sense of privacy.
  • The towns of Millerton, NY and Amenia, NY are less than 10 minutes away, by car
  • This employee would move into this property year-round.
  • When a litter of puppies is present (about 4 times per year), the employee would pay no rent.  During the months where no litters are present at the house, a nominal ($500/month) rent would be charged.
  • This set-up is ideal for a young family, couple, or recent graduate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Eagerness to learn
  • Attention to detail and high degree of responsibility
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Has a valid driver’s license and owns a vehicle
  • Able to provide references and background check

We seek instructors to work in prison two days a week; take dogs home from prison the other three days. Must have service dog training experience, pass background check, and live within an hour of the prisons in which we operate

Pick up dogs from any of our NY prisons, take them home for 5 days and into all sorts of public places, return them to prison five days later, write reports on their behaviors. Service dog experience preferred but training will also be provided. Must be willing to hike with dogs or otherwise provide 1 hour each day of off-lead exercise
